Feed the Future (FTF) is the U.S. Government's global hunger and food security initiative. The USAID-funded initiative focuses on twelve countries in Africa, four in Asia, and three in Latin America and the Caribbean. An initiative of this size requires large scale monitoring and evaluation, and Nafundi plays an important role in enabling faster turnaround times and greater standardization among the country-specific surveys that FTF uses.
Rick Mitchell, a Senior Systems Analyst with FTF, describes the process used in the focus countries:
"[We developed] a core template for the data collection survey that was then modified based on the specific data collection needs and regional differences of each country. Also, in-country teams were able to provide feedback gathered from training sessions and testing to identify modifications to the core template. Taking advantage of the integrated nature of the ODK Collect survey tool and ODK Aggregate server, surveys could be quickly modified, tested, and released for further testing or data collection."
Because FTF needs accurate and near real-time data gathered at large scale, the campaign has been a perfect fit for Nafundi and ODK. The deployed surveys have close to 3,300 variables spread across 19 modules, and have more than 1,000 built-in validation checks. The campaign has been running since 2012 and has collected over 20,000 completed surveys.
Nafundi has helped many efforts like USAID's Feed the Future collect data at scale, and we are ready to help your team. Contact our data collection experts to get started.
