Nafundi, big data, and social science

Big Data Social Science (BDSS) project at Penn State University that trains researchers in various disciplines on data science and analytics. It's an exciting new model for graduate education and the BDSS site describes the problem they are trying to solve well.

The greatest challenges and opportunities arise from socially-generated big data, observed as a result of human interactions that are increasingly recorded via web, mobile device, and distributed sensors, or revealed through digitization of historical records. Society faces a transformative data deluge, from which new scientific, economic, and social value can be extracted.

Nafundi's CEO, Yaw Anokwa, is an external advisor to BDSS and in early October he went to Penn State to give a talk on mobile data collection. Below are the slides from that presentation.
